Chiffon Cake

Light as air and rich in flavor, Carla Hall’s Chiffon Cake is the centerpiece your table deserves. With a tender crumb and a hint of vanilla, this classic Southern-inspired cake is perfect for any occasion — from Sunday dinners to celebratory gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 7 eggs, separated
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp cream of tartar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Do not grease the pan.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add egg yolks, water, oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
  5. Gently fold egg whites into batter in three additions.
  6. Pour into a tube pan and bake for 55–60 minutes.
  7. Invert pan and let cool completely before removing.
