Some Cookware Is Too Good for Just One Serving

Aug 27, 2026

Introducing Second Servings, our marketplace for buying and selling premium used cookware.

Second Servings is Sur la table’s resale marketplace, where home cooks buy and sell premium used cookware and kitchen goods. You list what you no longer reach for. Someone else gives it a second life. You choose cash or Sur la table store credit.

It’s powered by Archive, the resale platform behind programs at The North Face, lululemon, Peloton, and New Balance, which means payments, support, and shipping are all handled for you.

Open the cabinet you never open

You know the one. The duplicate Dutch oven. The stand mixer attachment you used once. The pasta roller that seemed like a very good idea in 2021.

Most of it isn’t broken. Most of it isn’t even worn. It’s just not yours anymore, in the sense that it’s not what you actually cook with. And until now, the only options were a garage sale, a stranger from a marketplace app, or the bottom of a donation bin.

Good cookware deserves better than that. So does the cook who’s looking for exactly the piece you’re not using.

Why cookware, of all things

Because it’s the rare thing you buy that’s genuinely built to outlast you.

It lasts. Cast iron, carbon steel, copper, and enameled cast iron routinely serve more than one generation of cook. A well-seasoned cast iron skillet is arguably better than a new one. There aren’t many things you can buy where that’s true.

It cleans up completely. Stainless steel, enameled cast iron, copper, and glass are non-porous surfaces. A proper wash, rinse, and sanitize resets them. That’s not a workaround for secondhand, it’s how these materials were designed to work in the first place.

It can be fixed. Copper gets re-tinned. Cast iron gets restored. Knives get sharpened. Handles and lids get replaced. A little rust is not the end of a good pan’s life.

What you’ll find

Second Servings is premium brands only, and every listing is one of one. Not a catalog photo of a pan like the one you’re buying. A photo of the actual pan, taken by the person who cooked in it.

Expect enameled cast iron and copper, chef’s knives, stand mixers and their attachments, bakeware, and the kind of specialty pieces people buy for one project and then set aside. The selection changes constantly, which is part of the fun.

How selling works

  1. List it. Answer a short set of condition questions and upload your own photos.
  2. Ship it. When it sells, you send it on with a prepaid label.
  3. Get paid. Choose cash, or take Sur la table store credit, which is worth more.

That last part is deliberate. Sell the pan you outgrew and put it toward the one you actually wanted.

The part we care about most

A pan that gets a second life instead of getting thrown out is the whole point.

Almost all of the environmental cost of a Dutch oven or a stand mixer was spent before it ever reached your kitchen, in making it. Sending it on to a second kitchen costs something too, but not remotely as much as building a new one. Keeping good cookware in circulation is the part of this we can actually control.

“We’ve said for fifty years that we sell things built to last. Second Servings is the first time we can prove it. A great pan should be able to find its next kitchen.” — Dan Goldman, Sur la table

Second Servings FAQ

What is Second Servings? Second Servings is Sur la table’s peer-to-peer resale marketplace for premium used cookware and kitchen goods. Home cooks list items directly, and other cooks buy them. It’s powered by Archive, and Sur la table stands behind the experience.

How is this different from a general resale app? Second Servings is brand-backed rather than open to anything. It’s premium brands only, listings follow a condition standard we set, and payment, shipping, and support all run through the program. You aren’t meeting a stranger in a parking lot to buy a $300 pan.

Do I get cash or store credit when I sell? You choose. Store credit is worth more than the cash option. Sellers can select either 100% commission in store credit or 70% commission in cash.

How do I know what condition an item is really in? Every listing is created by the seller against a required set of condition questions, with photos of the actual item rather than catalog images. You see the exact piece you’re buying before you buy it.

Is used cookware safe? What about allergens? Cookware is one of the few secondhand categories built to be fully sanitized. Stainless steel, enameled cast iron, copper, and glass are non-porous, and a standard wash, rinse, and sanitize removes residue. Every listing also comes with seller-reported condition details and real photos, so you know more about the item than you would from a hand-me-down or an estate sale.

We do not except consumable (ex food), recalled, or modified products.

Cleaning Guidance:

1. Preparation:

  • Remove stickers: Use rubbing alcohol to dissolve sticky residue.
  • Take apart: Separate lids, valves, and handles to find hidden grime.
  • Inspect: Check closely for chips, cracks, or deep scratches.

      2. Washing &Sanitizing

      • Hand-wash: Use warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge.
      • Sanitize: Soak modern items in 1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water for one minute.
      • Protect vintage: Avoid dishwashers and steel wool to prevent scratches or fading.

          3. Finishing

          • Dry fully: Air-dry completely to prevent mold during shipping.
          • Buff spots: Wipe glass and metal with a microfiber cloth for clean photos.

What can’t I sell on Second Servings? Second Servings is built around premium, well-loved kitchenware, and every item needs to be in good condition to be listed. That means no missing parts and nothing broken. If you’re not sure whether your piece qualifies, you can search for it when you start a listing, and if it’s not already in the catalog, you can submit it for review.

What brands are eligible? Second Servings features many of the popular, premium kitchenware brands Sur La Table customers already know and trust. Searching for your item when you start a listing is the fastest way to check eligibility, and if you don’t see it, you can submit it and our team will take a look.

How is shipping handled? Archive manages logistics, including prepaid labels for sellers, along with payment processing and customer support.

What if something arrives not as described? All sales are final and returns are not accepted. However, you can always re-list the item for sale. In the event that a seller has misrepresented the item you purchased, you will have 3 days after receiving the item to notify us of the issue and request a refund.

What happens to cookware that’s too worn to resell? Quite a lot can be repaired: copper re-tinned, cast iron restored, knives sharpened, handles and lids replaced. Bare cast iron, stainless steel, and copper are also among the most recyclable materials in any household category.
